Dear Colleague Welcome to the Europass Newsletter. These newsletters will be quarterly and provide you with the latest developments in promoting mobility and helping individuals to be able to promote themselves as effectively as possible. Please feel free to forward the newsletter to any colleagues that may be interested in the Lifelong Learning Programme. Diploma SupplementTowards the end of 2010, the National Europass Centre, in conjunction with the British Council, ran Diploma Supplement awareness events in Shrewsbury and Edinburgh to inform University administrators about the benefits of the Diploma Supplement. The events allowed Higher Education Institutions to share ideas and practice in order to record and assist the recognition of their students' knowledge and competences. The Diploma Supplement is designed to accompany a graduate's qualification certificate, provides information on the content and level of an individual's qualification and places the qualification into the context of the National Qualification Framework. It is an important transparency and recognition tool for degrees in the European Higher Education Area and facilitates mobility throughout Europe. To find out more about the events visit the British Council Website. If you would like more information about the Diploma Supplement please visit the Europass website. The National Europass Centre, together with the British Council, is planning a further Diploma Supplement awareness event in Northern Ireland towards the end of 2011. The event is likely to be an all-Ireland event in collaboration with the National Europass Centre for the Republic of Ireland. Further information on the event will be made available from the UK NEC's events page nearer the time, or you can contact the team at info@europass.org.uk. The Europass CV workshop with EURESIn the spring Europass held European job workshops with job seekers in Newport, South Wales. Interested job seekers were given a presentation on how Europass documents can be used when looking for a job and attended one-to-one, 30-minute workshops, during which they were given advice on finding a suitable vacancy and used the Europass CV portal to generate a job application. Feedback was very positive and a number of applications sent. The UK National Europass Centre is happy to run similar workshops, so if you would like similar advice or information then please contact the National Europass Centre on 0871 330 8341 or info@europass.org.uk. The Europass Language Passport iPhone AppThe Europass Language Passport is now available as an iPhone application, compatible with the iPhone, iPod and iPad; and it is available for free download from iTunes. Offering an intuitive and attractive interface, this application is available as an alternative to the well-established web-based tool with completed Language Passports being emailed to the user (or a third party) on completion. For more detailed information on the Language Passport, please visit our Language Passport page or download the iPhone App now. User feedback from iTunes is very complimentary: "I highly recommend it to anyone looking to work in Europe and I have actually secured a job on a ski resort in France using this!" Case StudyWe are delighted to receive feedback from Wakefield College on their work experience programme in Sweden, for which participants were awarded the Europass Mobility document. The experience displays the value of the Europass Mobility Document: "[The students] feel that having the Europass Mobility Document will give them a competitive edge when they apply to further education or they enter employment". For more information on how Europass is having a tangible effect to peoples' education and employment opportunities please visit our Case Studies page.
